After Lyric had her EKG we went right to the O.R. for a couple of procedures. She is having a spinal tap with a round of chemo in her spinal fluid. They are checking to make sure that the Leukemia is not present in her spinal fluid again. She is also having a bone marrow aspiration where they insert a large needle through her lower back into her hip bone to sample a couple teaspoons of the marrow. This sample will tell them how her marrow is reacting to the first round of chemo. Since finding out that Lyric is the only known case of Leukemia like hers, this procedure has become very important. There is nothing else to compare her to so all we have is to take a close look at what they have already done. If the marrow hasn't reacted well we may have to have an immediate bone marrow transplant.
